The Hudson bushfire burned approximately 27,894 hectares in remote north‑west New South Wales near Hudson, Walgett and Lightning Ridge.
One NSW Rural Fire Service volunteer firefighter died after being struck by a falling tree while responding to the fire. The fire destroyed 24 properties and damaged a further 20, and significantly affected the Grawin opal fields, where open mine shafts created major safety risks for firefighting crews. Extremely high temperatures and low humidity contributed to challenging and dangerous fire conditions.
