Between 2.30 pm and 3 pm on 25 September 1990, a tour bus based at Tweed Heads was involved in an accident near the intersection of Henri Roberts Drive and King Parrot Court at Tamborine. The driver attempted to turn into the court but was unable to successfully negotiate the turn. The bus slipped over an embankment and rolled, coming to rest against a large gum tree.
Eleven people died in the accident and the remaining 38 occupants were injured. The cause of the crash could not be determined, and heavy vehicles were no longer permitted to travel on the route.
