On 7 March 2007, a Garuda Indonesia Airways 737 aircraft overran the runway at Yogyakarta, Indonesia, after landing. The aircraft went through the airport's perimeter fence, crossed a road and an embankment, and caught fire as it came to rest in a nearby rice paddy.

The flight was a domestic service travelling from Jakarta. 

One of the seven crew members and 20 of the 133 passengers were killed; five Australians were among the fatalities. A further 12 people were injured, among them five Australians.

In 2009, the Indonesian pilot was found guilty of negligently causing death and sentenced to two years' jail. The ruling was later overturned on appeal.

Due to the loss of Australian lives, this event has been included in this dataset.
