On 3 October 1986, a severe hailstorm spread over Western Sydney. Hail stones of up to 6 cm caused damage to hundreds of homes and ten people sustained injury.
The Insurance Council of Australia estimated the 1999 damage at $104 million, with the 2011 estimated normalised cost of $638 million.
