$25 million Insurance Costs

On 21 January 1986, a severe hailstorm caused extensive damage to homes, farms and crops in the Orange area of the Central Tablelands. Hail of up to 7 cm in diameter was reported and over 100 motor vehicles were damaged. The Insurance Council of Australia estimated the 1986 damage at $25 million, with the 2011 estimated normalised cost of $160 million.
