On 29 October 2004, a package dropped in a loading bay at a Tullamarine freight depot released toxic vapours. The solution, containing hydrochloric and formic acid, formed a smoky haze after the spill.

Four hundred workers were evacuated; 28 people were injured. Most of those injured sustained respiratory irritation, nausea and vomiting.
