From 5 to 15 January 2003, 195 people had severe food poisoning following the consumption of meat rolls from a Footscray Vietnamese restaurant. As a result, nine people were admitted to hospital and one death occurred. Health authorities confirmed salmonella was present in the rolls.

In February 2003, victims of the food poisoning commenced a class action against the owners of the restaurant and were compensated with damages.
