On 19 and 23 September 1998, the central and southern wheatbelt of Western Australia experienced severe frosts, the worst in history. These events were extremely damaging as the mild winter accelerated the crop development so that crops were very susceptible to frost damage. The crop damage totalled approximately $98 million.
