On 12 March 1934, a tropical cyclone crossed the north Queensland coast near Cape Tribulation. A storm surge associated with the cyclone at nearby Bailey Creek destroyed crop plantations. Widespread damage and destruction of property occurred at Mossman, Daintree and Cape Tribulation. There were 75 deaths recorded.
