On 25 September 1988, a man shot and killed five of his relatives in Oenpelli, Northern Territory. A sixth death also occurred, however reports suggest it was caused by heart attack subsequent to the shootings.

The man walked approximately 150 km and hid for nine days in Arnhem Land before surrendering to police. He was charged with five counts of murder.
