Red Tuesday occurred on 1 February 1898 when in the southern Gippsland area of Victoria 260,000 ha were burnt, 12 people were killed and 2000 buildings were destroyed. The fires affected the Cranbourne, Traralgon, Neerim South and Poowong areas.
