A mini-bus and a four-wheel-drive crashed north-west of Bundaberg.The cars collided at high speed at an intersection, and their view of each other may have been blocked by sugarcane till just before the crash occurred.

Three overseas backpackers died, two from Germany and one from France, and eight other people were seriously injured after the minibus they were travelling in collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle near Bundaberg. The overseas backpackers on the minibus had been working in the area as fruit pickers. Ambulance officers stabilised the injured, including the driver of the four-wheel-drive and his wife, before transporting them to a number of hospitals. Two Swedish tourists, a French-Canadian and an English tourist were treated in hospital with serious head and spinal injuries. Two Korean tourists suffered cuts and bruises.
