In 1874, the full-rigged ship of iron British Admiral was wrecked four miles south of Currie, King Island. The vessel was en route from Liverpool to Melbourne with 49 passengers and 39 crew. Due to bad weather, British Admiral had set course for King Island on 23 May. 

There were only nine survivors of the shipwreck.
