Narollah Station bushfire, 1954

Quick Statistics

3 Fatalities

On 14 November 1954, a bushfire occured at the Narollah Station, 60 miles south of Hughenden.

Two men fighting the fire were encircled by flames when a gust of wind blew in from behind them. A third who came to their assistance was also caught in the fire – despite suffering burns, he drove them four hours to the station homestead.

The three men died in hospital approximately two days later.

At the time of the fire, heavy rain was falling at Corfield, under 20 miles away. The rain bogged the roads and prevented ambulance access.
