The Macumba was a 2526 ton steamer, en route to Darwin from Brisbane on 6 August 1943 when it was attacked by a Japanese float plane. The attack sunk the ship, causing the deaths of three people on board and injuring five.

The Macumba was in the Arafura Sea, north of Arnhem Land, completing its Thursday Island to Darwin leg of the trip at the time of attack.
